Adding Product Details

Go to Components - HikaShop - Products. In the list click on your product to open its editing page.You can add a description and images using the editor window in the same way as with Articles.  

You can also add an image to your product. This will appear with your product and can be included in  products listing pages and modules. To do this scroll down to the bottom of the Product Edit page. Click Add in the images panel on the right. In the window that opens click Choose File. Browse for an image on your hard drive, click on it and select Open.  You can enter a name for the image in the name field. Click Ok. You can add more images in the same way.

Adding Terms and Conditions

First create an article either from the backend Content -Article Manager - Create New Article or from your front end create article menu item. Give the article a title (eg Terms and Conditions) and save it. Now go to Components - HikaShop - Configuration. Click on the  Checkout tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Next to Terms and Conditions click Select. Click on the 'Terms and Conditions' article you created then on Save in the configuration window.

Changing the Checkout Workflow

You can change how the checkout process works. For instance you may want to stop the Coupon item displaying, or force a user to accept the terms and conditions before proceeding to the checkout. There are a number of different combinations and how you set up the checkout workflow very much depends on the type of online store you are running.

Go to Components - HikaShop - Configuration. Click on the Checkout tab.

You change order rearranging the items in the bottom of the workflow pane. You remove items by dragging them to the trash can at the top. You add new items by dragging them from the top to the bottom.

Managing Sales

Make a few dummy sales from the front end. Register new test users if you like.

To gain an over view of your sales click on the Dashboard icon on the top left of the HikaShop menu.

Supposing you have confirmed a bank transfer from a customer and you need to ship an order. Click on the number of the order in the left hand column of the last 7 Orders pane to open the Order edit window. You can also access this window for all orders by going to Sales in the Hikashop menu.

In the Order status selection field change the value from 'created' to 'confirmed'. In the New order status window click Yes for Notify Customers. Alter the confirmation email if you want. Click Ok to confirm.

You can also edit other order and customer details using the appropriate edit icons. You can email the customer, create invoices and go back to the Orders page using the icons on the top right.

Once the item is shipped we can open the Sales window again and change the Order status from Confirmed to Shipped. In the status window we can choose to log a reason or to notify the customer. Click Ok  to confirm.

In this tutorial we will be setting up a basic shopping cart using the 'Hika Shop' Component

Installation and Configuration

Either download from the Hika Shop website and install from your hard drive or copy and paste the following URL into the Install from URL field after the http://

davejulian/net/joomla/resources/com_hikashop_starter_1.4.4_2011-02-07.zip

If the component installs successfully you should see a list of plug ins and modules that Hika Shop has also installed. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and read the welcome message.

Now scroll back to the top of the page and in the Hika Shop menu go to System - Configuration.

You can also access the control panels for Hika Shop in the back end Components - Hika Shop. You should se a screen similar to this.

Type in an address for your shop.

Click on the Edit icon editnext to Main Tax Zone. In the popup check the box next to 'Australia' in the list. Click 'OK' to close the popup.

Click on the green arrow next to the Main Currency selection box to open the Currencies window. Click on Australian dollar in the list to edit it. You can change Rate to the current exchange rate. Click Yes for Published and Displayed. Click Save and Close.

Now go back to the System - Configuration window. Check the Main tab is active and in the Main Currency field select $AUD.

Take note of the other items on this page, but leave them as they are for now. Click Save and Close.

Now go to System - Payment Methods

Click on the red circle next to HikaShop bank transfer plugin.(No. 18  in the list) to enable it. 

If you have a standard PayPal account you can use also this as a payment method. In the list of payment methods click on HikaShop Paypal payment plugin (it should be number 9 in the list) Type your PayPal email in the Email field. Click Save and Close. 

You can also use other methods if you have the relevant accounts.

Unless you are selling a downloadable file you will need to select a shipping method. In the HikaShop menu go to System - Shipping Methods. Click on HikaShop Australia shipping plugin. Select your Zone, a Minimum Price for postage (in $AUD),and your postcode. You can also select what shipping services you intend to use. Click Save and close. Now click on the red circle to enable the HikaShop Australia shipping plugin.  

 Adding Products

In the Hika Shop menu go to Products-Add a Product.  Give your product a name (eg chicken soup). Type a price for your product in the Price field in the bottom right. Ensure $ AUD  is selected. Take note of the other items on this page but, for now, leave them as they are. Press Save and Close.

Adding a Menu Item 

In the Joomla  menu go to Menus - Main Menu - Add New Menu Item.

For Menu Item Type, under HikaShop select Products Listing. Give the menu item a title (eg Soups) and click Save and Close. 

Go to the front end to verify that when you click the 'Soups' menu item you see the 'Chicken Soup' product. Click Add to cart then Proceed to checkout to verify the check out process.
